Description:

This position is located in the Nutrition Services Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. Activities are directed toward coordination of the nutrition services with other program services to achieve the goal of elevating the physical status of the American Indian/Alaskan Native to an optimum state through adequate nutrition. This position reports to the Health Chief of Nutrition Services.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Individual Occupational Requirements
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Applicant must meet one of the following requirements for all grade levels:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist(RDN). NOTE: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0630-09:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Conducting and evaluating nutritional assessments; formulating a nutrition diagnosis, developing a nutrition intervention inclusive of education and counseling, and identifying nutrition evaluation and monitoring metrics.

OR

Completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. (Transcripts Required for this option)

OR

Possess a combination of education and specialized that when combined, fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-09 grade level. (Transcripts Required for this option)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0630-11:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Conducting and evaluating nutritional assessments; formulating a nutrition diagnosis, developing a nutrition intervention inclusive of education and counseling, and identifying nutrition evaluation and monitoring metrics; providing nutrition consultation to other health care team members; developing and implementing group nutrition classes; performing diabetes education.

OR

Possess at least (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a P.D. degree OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. (Transcripts Required for this option)

OR

Education and experience may be combined for which both education and experience are acceptable. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant and only graduate education in excess of what is required for the next lower grade may be used for this option. (Transcripts Required for this option)

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
