Description:
This position is a Lead Medical Technician assigned to the Specimen Procurement & Processing Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS). The lead technician works with the Phlebotomy Supervisor and other team members to ensure task completion and provides service to meet program and production goals. Purpose is to assist team in producing timely phlebotomy service to veterans with emphasis on maintaining a satisfactory level of customer service excellence.Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service that includes performing the following duties: a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.

SUBSTITUTE EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: MUST have successfully completed at least Six months of Graduate education or an internship to may be used to meet the specialized experience required. Education is creditable only in those instances where it is directly related to the position. (Transcript Required)

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: MUST have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience to meet the total requirements. Education is creditable only in those instances where it is directly related to the position. (Transcript Required)

Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate physical exertion, such as regular and recurring running, walking, stooping or bending to collect blood or record information. In many situations the duration of the activity (such as most of a workday) contributes to the arduous nature of the job. There is a special requirement for agility and dexterity such as exceptional hand eye coordination and sense of touch.
